01

You’re carrying things God never handed you.

The what-ifs, the bills, the test results you are afraid of. Worry promises control and delivers exhaustion. Scripture does not tell you to stop caring. It tells you where to put the weight.

02

Cast it, because He cares

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.1 Peter 5:7 · NIV

Peter does not tell anxious people to try harder. He gives a reason to let go: the God who receives your anxiety cares for you.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.Philippians 4:6 · NIV
03

Worry can’t add a single hour

Jesus pointed to the birds and asked a simple question. Then He drew a line around today.

Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?Matthew 6:27 · NIV
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.Matthew 6:34 · NIV

Jesus doesn’t dismiss your problems. He limits them to one day at a time.

04

Prayer trades weight for peace

Paul’s pattern is specific: bring every request, with thanksgiving. God’s answer is a peace that stands guard over your heart and mind.

You bringYour requests, with thanksgiving
God givesPeace that guards your heart and mind
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.Philippians 4:7 · NIV
05

A prayer for the anxious

Father, my mind keeps running ahead. I give You what I can’t control. Thank You that You care for me. Guard my heart and mind with Your peace, and help me live today, not tomorrow. Amen.

Pray it whenever the worry returns

Casting, not carrying

  1. Name it specificallyWrite down exactly what you’re anxious about. Named fears can be prayed.
  2. Hand it over out loudPray each item to God, and thank Him for one thing beside each.
  3. Stay in todayWhen tomorrow’s worry returns, ask: what is mine to do today?
When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.Psalm 94:19 · NIV
Reflect
What are you carrying that God asked you to cast?

Write down the one worry you keep picking back up. Then pray it to God, and thank Him for one thing beside it. If anxiety is overwhelming your days, talking with a pastor, counselor or doctor is wise too. Getting help is not a lack of faith.
