Grace,Then Works
You can’t earn what God freely gave, but His grace was never meant to leave you unchanged. See how Ephesians 2 puts grace and works in the right order.

Some of us try to earn God’s love. Others assume it changes nothing.
Some believers work hard to be accepted by God and never feel like they have done enough. Others lean on grace so heavily that it never changes how they live. Both miss the order Scripture gives.
Saved by grace, not by works
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.Ephesians 2:8–9 · NIV
Paul is clear: salvation is a gift received through faith. If it could be earned, it would be a wage, and we would have something to boast about.
And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.Romans 11:6 · NIV
Created for good works
The very next verse says we are God’s handiwork, made to do good works He already prepared. Works are not how we get in. They are what grace produces once we are in.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.Ephesians 2:10 · NIV
In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.James 2:17 · NIV
Works are not the root of salvation. They are the fruit.
Same works, different reason
Two people can serve, give and pray the same way for opposite reasons. One is trying to earn love. The other is responding to it.
he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.Titus 3:5 · NIV
A prayer of grace
Father, thank You that I cannot earn what You freely gave. Free me from trying to prove myself, and from treating Your grace lightly. Let my life overflow with the good works You prepared for me. Amen.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.Matthew 5:16 · NIV
Are you working for God’s love, or from it?
Think about the last good thing you did for God. Was it to earn His love, or because you already have it?
