01

More money never feels like enough.

A raise, a bigger place, the next purchase. The finish line keeps moving. Jesus speaks to that directly, and He starts with the heart, not the bank account.

02

Where your treasure is, your heart follows

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.Matthew 6:19–21 · NIV

Jesus doesn’t say your heart decides where your money goes. He says your money pulls your heart along with it.

03

You can’t serve both

Money is not neutral when it becomes a master. Ecclesiastes adds the hard truth: loving it never leaves you satisfied.

No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.Matthew 6:24 · NIV
Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.Ecclesiastes 5:10 · NIV

Money makes a useful servant and a cruel master.

04

The prayer for “enough”

Agur asked God for neither poverty nor riches. Too much could make him forget God; too little could tempt him to steal.

Too much can lead to“Who is the LORD?”
Too little can lead todishonoring God’s name
give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.Proverbs 30:8 · NIV
05

A prayer for contentment

Lord, I don’t want money to be my master. Give me what I need and a heart that is content. Help me hold what I have with open hands and store up treasure with You. Amen.

Pray it before you spend

Store up in heaven

  1. Give firstSet aside a first portion for God and others before anything else.
  2. Name your “enough”Decide what enough looks like, and stop the moving finish line.
  3. Bless someoneLook for one person you can help with what you have this week.
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.1 Timothy 6:17 · NIV
Reflect
Where your money goes, what does it say you treasure?

Look over last month’s spending with God, honestly and without guilt. Then decide what “enough” looks like for you.
