01

You feel called. You also feel completely unqualified.

Many believers hold back from what God is asking because they don’t feel ready, gifted or confident enough. The man God used to lead a nation out of slavery felt exactly the same way.

02

At the burning bush

But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”Exodus 3:11 · NIV

God didn’t answer with a pep talk about Moses’ abilities. He didn’t list his strengths. He answered with Himself:

And God said, “I will be with you.”Exodus 3:12 · NIV
03

Moses gave God five reasons

Across Exodus 3 and 4, every answer God gave was met with another objection. (Quotations and summaries from the NIV.)

  1. 01EX 3:11“Who am I?”
  2. 02EX 3:13“What is his name?”
  3. 03EX 4:1“What if they do not believe me?”
  4. 04EX 4:10“I am slow of speech and tongue.”
  5. 05EX 4:13“Please send someone else.”
04

Every objection got an answer

Moses said
God answered
“Who am I?”
“I will be with you.” (3:12)
“What if they do not believe me?”
Signs to show His power (4:2–9)
“I am slow of speech…”
“I will help you speak…” (4:12)
“Please send someone else.”
Aaron sent to go with him (4:14–15)

The question isn’t who you are. It’s who is with you.

05

The man who said “send someone else”

Moses went. He stood before Pharaoh, led Israel through the sea and carried God’s law down the mountain. At the end of his life, Scripture says:

Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face…Deuteronomy 34:10 · NIV

When you feel unqualified

  1. Bring Him your excuses honestlyMoses argued with God out loud, and God answered every one. He can handle your doubts.
  2. Listen for His answer, not just your fearEach objection was met with a promise of presence, help or provision.
  3. Take the next obedient step“Now go” (Exodus 4:12). Confidence often comes after obedience, not before.
My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.2 Corinthians 12:9 · NIV
Reflect
What excuse have you been giving God that He has already answered?

It was never about your confidence. It’s about His presence. “Now go; I will help you speak…” (Exodus 4:12, NIV)
