A prayer for hope
Pray it slowly, in your own words if you like.
God of hope, I am finding it hard to hope right now. You see what has disappointed me and what I have stopped expecting. I bring it all to You.
Thank You that Your compassions fail not, that they are new every morning, and that great is Your faithfulness. Anchor my soul in You when everything else is shifting.
Fill me with joy and peace as I believe, so that I overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Help me wait for You and look for You, because my hope is in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
What the Bible says about hope
What is biblical hope?
In everyday speech, hope means wishing. In Scripture, hope is confident expectation based on God’s promises. Hebrews 6:19 calls it “an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast,” and 1 Peter 1:3 calls it “a lively hope” grounded in the resurrection of Jesus.
What is a good Bible verse for hope in hard times?
Lamentations 3:21-26 was written after Jerusalem was destroyed, yet it says God’s compassions “are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Romans 15:13 and Psalm 42:5 are also favorites when hope is low.
What does Jeremiah 29:11 say about hope?
God told the exiles in Babylon, “I know the thoughts that I think toward you… thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” It was a promise of a future after seventy hard years. Read all of Jeremiah 29 in the Living Word Bible.
How do I hold onto hope while waiting?
Romans 8:24-25 says “if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.” Keep praying honestly, as the psalmists did, remember what God has already done, and stay close to people who can hope with you.
