A prayer for peace

Pray it slowly, in your own words if you like.

Lord Jesus, You are the Prince of Peace. My mind is busy and my heart is unsettled, and I want the peace You promised, not the kind the world gives.

Keep me in perfect peace as I fix my mind on You. Let Your peace rule in my heart and guard my thoughts. Help me bring every worry to You in prayer, with thanksgiving.

Tonight, let me lie down in peace and sleep, because You alone make me dwell in safety. Make me a peacemaker at home and wherever You send me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

What the Bible says about peace

What is the peace of God?

Philippians 4:7 describes “the peace of God, which passeth all understanding,” guarding our hearts and minds in Christ. It is a settled calm that God gives in the middle of trouble, not after it. Jesus said, “In the world ye shall have tribulation” and still offered peace in Him (John 16:33).

What is the difference between peace with God and the peace of God?

Peace with God is a restored relationship: “being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1). The peace of God is the inner calm that grows out of that relationship as we trust Him day by day.

What is the priestly blessing in Numbers 6?

Numbers 6:24-26 is the blessing God gave Aaron to speak over Israel: “The LORD bless thee, and keep thee… and give thee peace.” Many churches still close services with it, and it makes a beautiful prayer over family and friends.

How do I find peace when I am anxious?

Isaiah 26:3 promises perfect peace to the one whose mind is stayed on God, and Philippians 4:6-9 pairs prayer with thinking on what is true and lovely. See also our page of Bible verses for anxiety and fear.
