Bible Verses About God’s Love (KJV) + A Prayer to Know His Love
Does God really love me? “Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love.” These 14 passages from the King James Bible answer that question from every angle: a Father who runs to His children, a Shepherd who goes after the one lost sheep, and a Savior who died for us while we were yet sinners.

Does God really love me?
John 3:16-17KJV
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Romans 5:6-8KJV
6For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.Read in context →
Romans 8:35-39KJV
35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of God.Read in context →
1 John 4:7-19KJV
7Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 9In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. 13Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. 14And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. 15Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 16And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 17Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. Keep reading →

Ephesians 3:14-19KJV
14For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Luke 15:1-7KJV
1Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him. 2And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. 3And he spake this parable unto them, saying, 4What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

9As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. 10If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. 11These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. 12This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

A prayer to know God’s love
Pray it slowly, in your own words if you like.
Father, I know the words “God is love,” but sometimes I struggle to believe they are true for me. Open my eyes to how much You love me.
Thank You that You loved me before I loved You, that Christ died for me while I was still a sinner, and that nothing in all creation can separate me from Your love in Christ Jesus.
Help me to grasp the breadth and length and depth and height of the love of Christ, and let that love overflow to the people around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
What the Bible says about God’s love
What is the most famous Bible verse about God’s love?
John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” It sums up the gospel in one sentence.
Does God love me even when I sin?
Yes. Romans 5:8 says, “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” God’s love does not ignore sin. It deals with it at the cross, so that we can be forgiven and changed.
Can anything separate me from God’s love?
Romans 8:38-39 lists death, life, angels, powers, things present and things to come, and concludes that none of them “shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
What does “God is love” mean?
1 John 4:8 says “God is love,” meaning love is not just something God does but part of who He is. 1 John 4 goes on to say His love was shown by sending His Son, and that we love because He first loved us.
