A prayer for strength

Pray it slowly, in your own words if you like.

Lord, I am tired, and what is in front of me feels bigger than I am. You give power to the faint and increase strength to those who have none. I need that from You today.

Be my rock and my fortress. When my heart fails, be the strength of my heart. When I am afraid, remind me that You are my light and my salvation, so whom shall I fear?

Help me to be strong in You and in the power of Your might, not in my own. Let the joy of the Lord be my strength, and give me courage for the next step. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

What the Bible says about strength

What does Philippians 4:13 really mean?

Paul wrote “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” while describing contentment in both plenty and need (Philippians 4:11-12). It means Christ gives strength to face whatever circumstances God allows, not that we can achieve anything we set our minds to.

Where does the Bible say “be strong and courageous”?

God says it to Joshua repeatedly as he takes over from Moses (Joshua 1:6-9), and Moses says it to Israel in Deuteronomy 31:6. Each time it rests on a promise: “the LORD thy God is with thee.”

How can I be strong when I feel weak?

Scripture turns the question around. In 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 God tells Paul, “my strength is made perfect in weakness,” and Paul concludes, “when I am weak, then am I strong.” Weakness becomes a place where God’s strength shows.

What is the armour of God?

Ephesians 6:10-18 describes the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of the gospel of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation and sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. It is God’s provision for standing firm in spiritual battles, held together by prayer.
